2 Year Extended BTEC Diploma & NCFE Certificate

This practical hands-on course is for musicians, singers and composers who want to work towards a career in the music industry. Taught in bite-sized chunks this two year programme has been designed to improve your musical skills, industry knowledge and employability as an industry professional. You will also learn new skills such as music technology, marketing and event management. What do we mean by a career in the music industry? Well here’s a few of the career paths this course is aimed at; performer, session musician, band members, solo artists, community musician, music teacher, artist manager, tour manager, composer, sound designer, A&R and many more. Successful students will achieve an Extended BTEC Diploma in Music (equivalent to 3 'A' levels) and an NCFE Certificate in Performance.

Flexible Attendance

To fit in with your busy lives we offer 3 days per week study pattern which allows plenty of time for you to work part time, find gigs, practice, practice, practice and then practice some more

We are very proud of our brand new facilities in Camborne, Cornwall where we have dedicated practice rooms, recording studios and teaching spaces. dBs is nothing like a standard college or sixth form. We have a diverse music making community who you will work and collaborate with during your time with us. Our dedicated facilities support active learning and is dedicated to music and creativity. We pride ourselves on our supportive, friendly, inspiring and fun learning environment.

Hands On

As most of you will know, to get anywhere or progress in music you have to put in the time. You will be required to work on your preferred instrument for several hours per week both in and out of normal lectures. Your college sessions will consist of practical work, underpinning theory and performances to give you the tools you need to improve and succeed. You will also be required as a session musician throughout your time with us working collaboratively alongside our music technology students.

Subject Overview

Alongside developing your musical skills you will be studying a variety of units which will make up your overall qualification, these will include; music performance session styles and techniques, arranging music, modern music in practice, improvising music, sequencing, composing music, music production, sound recording techniques, the sound and music industry, and creating and marketing a music product.

Progression

Upon successful completion you may progress to:

  • a Foundation Degree in Live Sound
  • a Foundation Degree in Audio and Music Production
  • a Foundation Degree in Sound and Music Technology

  • a degree or HND in Music
  • employment at entry level in the music industry or related vocational area
  • freelance in a wide range of areas of the music industry.
